termal.in

Browser · Remote desktop

A Windows or VNC desktop in a browser tab.

Open a Windows desktop over RDP, or any VNC desktop, right in the browser at termal.in/account — nothing to install on the machine you’re on. Reach a desktop on a private network through a Connector, with no open port, or dial a public address directly. An HTML5 remote desktop that works like a web terminal.

No install · no open port through a Connector · Pro and Team (14-day trial)

01  /  two ways in

Through a Connector, or direct.

Right-click a Connector or a host and choose Remote desktop…. The dialog first asks how to connect: Through a Connector or Direct. Then protocol (RDP / VNC), port, and the credentials.

 Through a ConnectorDirect
AddressPrivate — empty or 127.0.0.1 is the Connector’s own machinePublic, reachable from the internet
Open a port?No — the Connector dials outThe desktop already listens
Files buttonOn the Connector’s own machine—
VNC encryptionCarried in the Connector tunnelUnencrypted — prefer a Connector

RDP and VNC can also be saved as hosts in the cabinet. The host form asks you to Connect either “Directly (the desktop has a public address)” or “Through Connector {name}”, so one click later reopens it with only the password to type.

02  /  in the viewer

A full viewer, right in the tab.

  • ▸Tabs, like the terminal — open several desktops side by side.
  • ▸Send Ctrl+Alt+Del, fit to window or actual size, and paste the clipboard into the desktop (paste-in only in the browser).
  • ▸Hide the pane and your sessions stay open; a pill brings them back.
  • ▸A 30-minute idle timeout closes a session that sends nothing either way.

03  /  files beside it

Files next to the desktop.

When you open a desktop through a Connector on that Connector’s own machine (an empty address, 127.0.0.1, localhost or ::1), a Files button appears. It browses that machine’s files over the same Connector, keyless — a file browser docks on the right while the desktop stays open. Windows drive paths work: the panel starts in the home folder, going up lists the drives, and a typed path like C:\Users… is accepted. The tooltip reads “Files on this computer (through the Connector)”.

04  /  what passes through

What termal.in sees.

  • ▸Relayed, not stored. The RDP stream passes through termal.in in memory and nothing of it is kept.
  • ▸NLA keeps the password out of the clear. With Network Level Authentication (the Windows default) the RDP password is never sent in the clear.
  • ▸The certificate is pinned. The RDP server’s certificate is remembered on first use; if it changes the connection stops and both fingerprints are shown with a trust button.
  • ▸VNC goes to the server. The VNC password goes straight to the server. Direct VNC crosses the internet unencrypted between termal.in and the server, so prefer a Connector for VNC.

05  /  brakes

Brakes against guessing.

A desktop that a connection reaches from the internet attracts password guessing, so there are limits:

  • ▸Three failed sign-ins in a row to the same desktop pause it for 30 minutes. Each later pause doubles, up to a day, and the count is forgotten after a quiet day.
  • ▸Direct mode allows at most 30 new sessions and 5 different addresses per hour per account.

06  /  plans

On Pro and Team.

Remote desktops in the browser use Termalin’s hosted relay, so they are a Pro and Team feature — up to 4 desktops open at once on Pro, 10 on Team, with a 30-minute idle timeout. The 14-day Pro trial includes them. Dialing a desktop you can reach directly from the desktop app is free. See pricing →

Questions

Do I need to install anything?

Nothing on the machine you’re browsing from — the desktop opens in a browser tab at termal.in/account. To reach a desktop on a private network, one machine on that network runs a Termalin Connector (one line, outbound only). A desktop with a public address needs no Connector at all.

Does it support Kerberos?

No. Over RDP, use a local account or NTLM (DOMAIN\user is fine). Kerberos needs a domain controller the browser can’t reach through the relay.

Can I copy from the remote desktop back to my computer?

In the browser you can paste your clipboard into the desktop, but copying back out is not available there. The desktop app syncs the clipboard both ways.

Which ports does it reach?

RDP on 3389 and VNC on 5900–5999 only. Through a Connector the address must be private; direct, it must be a public address.

Is a session logged?

Each open and each refusal is written to the gateway log with the host and port — the same audit trail as a browser SSH session. The desktop stream itself passes through in memory and is never stored.

Which plan do I need?

Remote desktops in the browser are on Pro and Team (and the 14-day trial): up to 4 open at once on Pro, 10 on Team. Dialing a desktop directly from the desktop app is free.
