Pricing · Free tier

A free SSH client — the whole app, not a crippled trial.

Termalin's Free tier is the full desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux — tabbed terminal, SFTP with a built-in editor, session recording, the watch grid — with no host limits, free forever. Paid plans add the encrypted cloud; they never take the desktop away.

Free tier · 14-day Pro trial · Windows, macOS & Linux

01  /  what free means here

No host limits. No expiry. The desktop app is free, forever.

"Free" usually means a trial with a countdown or a demo capped at three hosts. Termalin's Free tier is neither: it's the whole desktop app, local-only, with everything running on your machine — including the SFTP browser with its built-in editor.

  • SSH & SFTP — real xterm-256color sessions in browser-style tabs, plus a file browser with a real editor: syntax highlighting, search & replace, in-place save.
  • A live status bar — CPU, memory, disk and network for the box you're on, always current.
  • Session recording & replay and the watch grid — every open session mirrored side by side as a live tile.
  • The MCP agent — an AI agent can open its own SSH sessions through Termalin — and a local encrypted vault behind one master password.

02  /  the honest part

What Pro adds — and what it costs.

Pro is the encrypted cloud: a cloud vault that's end-to-end encrypted, sync across all your devices, cloud recordings, and letting an agent step into your live session. It's $8/mo billed yearly or $10 monthly. Every new account starts with a 14-day Pro trial — no card required — and when it ends, the Free tier keeps working forever. The app works fully offline, and you keep everything you created locally even without a subscription. Full pricing →

03  /  other free clients

PuTTY and Tabby are genuinely free too. Here's what Termalin adds.

Fair is fair: PuTTY and Tabby are free, open-source, and battle-tested — if they do everything you need, use them. What Termalin adds on top: every server in one window with browser-style tabs and a hosts sidebar instead of one window per connection, an SFTP browser with a built-in editor next to the terminal, a live server stats bar, session recording & replay, the watch grid, and an MCP server for AI agents that no other client ships. And switching is painless — Termalin reads PuTTY's saved sessions in one click.

04  /  platforms & no lock-in

Windows, macOS and Linux — and your hosts come and go freely.

One client for Windows 10 or later (single .exe), macOS 11 or later (universal .dmg) and Linux (AppImage). Bring your hosts from an ~/.ssh/config, a CSV, or PuTTY's saved sessions in one click — and export back to an SSH config or CSV at any time, so there's no lock-in, either direction. It's an unsigned beta build for now — SmartScreen may warn on Windows — and the app updates itself.

Questions

Is Termalin really free?

Yes — the Free tier is the whole desktop app with no host limits, local-only, free forever. It isn't a trial that expires or a demo with features held back: SSH, SFTP with a built-in editor, session recording and replay, the watch grid and the MCP agent all run on your machine at no cost. What's the catch — what does Pro add?

Pro adds the encrypted cloud: a cloud vault that's end-to-end encrypted, sync across your devices and cloud recordings — at $8/mo billed yearly or $10 monthly. The desktop app itself stays free either way. See pricing →

Do I need a credit card?

No — every new account starts with a 14-day Pro trial, no card required. When the trial ends you keep the Free tier forever, and everything you created stays on your machine — the app works fully offline.

How does Termalin compare to PuTTY or Tabby?

Both are genuinely free and open-source, and if they do everything you need, they're fine choices. Termalin adds browser-style tabs in one window, an SFTP browser with a built-in editor, session recording and replay, the watch grid and an MCP server for AI agents — and it imports your PuTTY sessions in one click. vs PuTTY → · vs Tabby →

Which platforms does the free tier run on?

Windows 10 or later (single .exe), macOS 11 or later (universal .dmg) and Linux (AppImage). It's an unsigned beta build for now, so Windows SmartScreen may say “unknown publisher” — click More info → Run anyway. Code signing is on the way, and the app updates itself. Download →
